Well E3 has come and gone. Microsoft definitely had some big announcements for us at their 2008 press event. It definitely looks like they are focusing on the future of the console by cleaning up the dashboard by giving it a much nicer, cleaner and more futuristic look. I can go either way on the avatars, they will be something neat to customize but how deep will they go with the avatar system?. let's hope to see more downloadable options for the avatars pop up in the future after the fall update.
Microsoft has some big games coming to the Xbox LIVE Arcade, with Geometry Wars Retro Evolved 2,Portal Still Alive and the announcement of the original Banjo Kazooie that we remember from the Nintendo 64. Some more notable upcoming XBLA games are Braid and Galaga Legions. Uno Rush will also be a great addition but I can guarantee that you will not see that game until after the fall dashboard update since it uses the avatars.
As for retail game announcements, they showed off the obvious party game You're in the Movies,an Xbox LIVE vision camera based game, and Lips,a karaoke game that will allow you to upload music from your own personal collection and sing along with in the game. Fallout 3 from Bethesda looked incredible in the on stage demo they played and then announced exclusive downloadable content for the Xbox 360. Epic Games' Gears of War 2 showed up on stage at the press event and we then found out that the game will feature a multiplayer mode called "hoarde" which is 5 player co-op. Announcements came from both Guitar Hero World Tour and Rock Band 2,GH World Tour will feature the new upcoming Metallica cd and exclusive Jimi Hendrix tracks and Rock Band 2 will feature AC/DC,Bob Dylan and a track from the upcoming Guns and Roses cd.
The biggest announcement from the press event is definitely that Final Fantasy XIII from Square Enix will be available for the Xbox 360 on the same day that it is released on the Playstation 3. Square also showed off Infinate Undiscovery (a 360 exclusive) and Last Remnant. So the Xbox 360 definitely seems to be getting the "rpg love" from Square. So overall it was a winning show for the XBox 360 and Microsoft, they showed fantastic demos and had huge surprising announcements.
As always keep visiting The AVG Gamer for previews, trailers screenshots. T.A.G is in contact with various game publishers to post more game reviews on the site so "stay tuned" for that as well.
