You have just been dropped off from the chopper, your fellow soldiers are jumping in the humvees,4 wheelers and tanks and taking off to fight the enemy. The creatures you are facing are extremely deadly aliens that have an amazing technology to use for weaponry and can kill you in an instant if you are not careful. But that is ok,you are a highly trained special forces soldier with a high knowledge in combat and can survive in any element.
So now you made it to the city streets, you are dodging laser blasts and taking cover behind burnt up vehicles, and destroyed buildings in whatever kind of post apocalyptic world you are in. Then all of a sudden it's quiet, you start looking around because it's too quiet and you know something is going to happen, but wait!,you see something in the corner of your eye and you quickly turn around to see what it is. So you run up to get a closer look with your finger on the trigger ready for anything and when you get to it,it's an ad for an upcoming UFC match.
This is just one of the instances that happened to me playing Enemy Territory Quake Wars. I could not help but have a chuckle at this billboard, and I remembered the same billboard from Rainbow Six Vegas 2. Dynamic in-game ads are a great and useful feature for corporations to get the word out about their product or event to gamers, but when they just don't seem to belong in the environment,it kind of takes away from the atmosphere a bit. I guess I can be glad it wasn't an ad for women's deodorant or something like that.
So fellow gamers, keep your eyes open and see what kind of ads you can find in games, and let me know.
